Messiah's All-Time CoSIDA Academic All-American and All-District Honors
Greenwood, IN – Messiah seniors
Alicia Frey and
Joshua Wood were honored on Friday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as they were each named Capital One Academic All-Americans for soccer.
The All-American award is the second-straight for Frey and the first for Wood. The recognition comes a day before Wood and Frey will lead their respective teams into the NCAA Sectionals weekend.
Frey was named to the Third Team after earning a 3.73 grade point average (GPA) as a Mathematics and Secondary Education major. This year Frey is again the cornerstone of a Falcons' midfield that has supported both an imposing attack and a stingy defense. She was
named Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year earlier this month and, entering this weekend's Sectionals, has tallied three goals and two assists for the Falcons. All three of her goals have been game-winners, including her
impressive full volley in Sunday's win over Amherst.
Wood's honor is the first of his career, though
his Capital One Academic All-District award from earlier this month was his second in as many seasons. He was named First Team and carries a 3.71 GPA as a Cross Cultural Christian Ministries major. This season Wood is leading the Falcons in goals (20) and points (102) while netting an impressive 10 game-winners.
The Capital One Academic All-American awards for the duo are the
eighth and ninth collected by Messiah since 2011.
