Messiah's All-Time Conference Awards
with Phil Naegely, GoMessiah.com reporter
Annville, PA – The Commonwealth Conference released the season awards for field hockey on Thursday, with Messsiah's
Gina Kellett and
Moriah Pfautz leading six honors for the Falcons. Pfautz earned both Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year while Kellett was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Â
Kellett and Pfautz were joined on the First Team by defender
Becky Ely.
Brooke Sands took Home Second Team honors while teammates
Molly Gebrosky and
Caroline Wulf were each name Honorable Mention.
Â
Kellett has been instrumental to Messiah's success on both the offensive and defensive sides. Offensively, Kellett has 13 points (4g, 5a). This is her fourth-straight All-Commonwealth honor, which includes a Rookie of the Year award in 2010.
Â
Pfautz leads the Falcons in goals (21) and points (46) while sitting fourth on the team with four assists. In her first year with Messiah she has played as not only one of the best offensive players in the conference, but also across the NCAA. Entering this week's Commonwealth Championships Tournament she was 10th in the NCAA in goals per game (1.25) and 23rd in points per game (2.69).
Â
Becky Ely's conference honor is her third in as many years. Like Kellett, Ely is also a former Rookie of the Year (2011). Ely's stellar work in the backfield is one reason why Messiah boasts a 1.33 goals against average (GAA)— a mark good for 30th across all NCAA teams.
Â
Brooke Sands, who is second on the team in both goals (10) and points (23), was named Second Team for the first All-Commonwealth honor of her career.Â
Â
Molly Gebrosky collects an All-Commonwealth honor for the second-straight season. She's started all 19 games for the Falcons, and boasts a .760 save percentage with a 1.42 GAA and three shutouts.
Â
Caroline Wulf, like Gebrosky, has also started all 19 games for the Falcons. She is fifth on the team with 16 points and has collected five of her six assists against conference competition.
Â
Elizabethtown's Brandy Michael was named the Commonwealth Coach of the Year after leading the Blue Jays to a conference record of 7-1 and the No. 1 seed in the Commonwealth Championships Tournament.
Â
The Falcons, ranked No. 2 in the conference tournament and No. 15 in the nation, will travel to Elizabethtown on Saturday for the conference final.
Â
Below is a listing of the entire All-Commonwealth selections for field hockey.
Â
*Note: Starting in 2013 the Commonwealth Conference recognizes both an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year for field hockey. Neither award is assigned to a specific position on the field (e.g., a midfielder can be named either the Offensive or Defensive Player of the Year).
