Messiah's All-Time Mid-Atlantic All-Region Honors
Kansas City, KS – Messiah College women's soccer players
Nikki Elsaesser,
Alicia Frey,
Ali Rogers,
Macaulay Soto, and
Corinne Wulf were honored by the NSCAA this week, as each was named Mid-Atlantic All-Region. It is the eighth-straight season the Falcons have garnered at least four selections, and is the fifth time they've had at five honorees.
Elsaesser, Frey, and Rogers were each named to the First Team; Soto and Wulf were named to the Third Team.
Frey earns the First Team selection for the second-straight season. In her four years on the pitch she has also earned four All-Commonwealth honors, including the 2010 Rookie of the Year award and
this season's Defensive Player of the Year award. She was also an All-American last season. She finishes her career with 33 goals and 18 assists.
Elaesser, Rogers, and Soto were each was named All-Region for the first time in their respective careers. Elsaesser led the Falcons this season with 20 goals and six assists, and has already accumulated 31 goals and 17 assists in two years. This season she also was named the Commonwealth's Offensive Player of the Year.
Rogers has been a standout defender for the Falcons, who have finished in the top five in the NCAA for goals against average in each of her seasons. A forward-turned defender early in her career, Rogers was also named First Team All-Commonwealth this season.
Soto was an Honorable Mention member of the All-Commonwealth teams, but has quickly earned the reputation of being a top midfielder in the Region. She tallied five goals and seven assists this year, picking up three game-winners.
Like Frey, Wulf collects her second All-Region honor. She was named First Team in 2011 after a stellar campaign that included team-highs in goals (21) and points (49). After suffering a season-ending injury in the opening weekend of 2012, Wulf returned this season to finish second on the team in points (20) behind Elsaesser. Wulf completes her career with the Falcons with 57 goals and 38 assists—career marks that put her
fourth and second all-time for the Falcons' program.
The Falcons completed the 2013 season with a 20-3-1 record. Despite falling short of qualifying for their 10th-straight Final Four, Messiah did earn its seventh-straight Commonwealth Championship and advanced to the Sectional Semifinals.
