Josh Thomson Named D3Wrestle.com Freshman of the Year

Gettysburg, PA – Last night Messiah wrestler Josh Thomson was named D3Wrestle.com Freshman of the Year for 2013. This award comes after finishing his first season with a 40-3 overall record and a third place finish in the NCAA Division III Championships.
 
Other accomplishments for Thomson this season include an Empire Conference Championship, NCAA Mideast Regional Championship, and first place at the Wheaton College Invitational. In his 40 wins, Thomson had 10 falls and nine major decisions. He also had the highest winning percentage of any freshman this year (93%).
 
“It is a great accomplishment for him to receive,” said head coach Bryan Brunk. “This award really is the cherry on top of a fantastic season.”
 
Last season D3Wrestle.com recognized another Messiah athlete to the All-Freshman team: Kaleb Loht. He competed in the 133-pound weight class last year as opposed to 141 lbs. this year.
