2014 AVCA All-Region Teams

Lexington, KY – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 2014 All-Region teams today, and Messiah's Jane Underman was included among honorees from the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Underman was named as an Outside Hitter, and is just one of six players listed on the 14-person First Team that is of sophomore status or younger. Underman is the first Messiah player to be named All-Region since Lauren Rees in 2012. (Rees was Honorable Mention in 2011, and First Team in 2012.)

Underman had a breakout year for Messiah as she led the team in total kills (397) and kills per set (3.64). Both those numbers were largely improved from her first-year campaign last season (313 kills and 2.98 kills per set, respectively). She also totaled 444 points this season, 120 more than in 2013.

The First Team All-Commonwealth honoree also collected 194 digs and 22 blocks this season. Underman and the Falcons recorded the program's highest win total (26) since they won 30 matches in 1987. Messiah advanced to the Commonwealth Championship this season for the fourth-straight year.
