Kayla Deckert was honored today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as a Capital One Academic All-American.
The All-American honor is the first for Deckert and follows an All-District honor from three weeks ago.
Deckert was named to the Third Team after earning a 3.97 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as an Education major. She plays a significant role in the Falcons' back line, and has helped the team collect a fifth-ranked .252 goals against average entering this weekend's Sectional play. Deckert has also proven to be a capable two-way player, tallying two goals and five assists thus far.
The Falcons will play Nazareth College tomorrow, Nov. 22, at 11:00 a.m. on Shoemaker Field. The winner will advance to Sunday's Sectional Final.
The Capital One Academic All-American award is the 13th collected by a Messiah College Falcon since 2011.
