Messiah Volleyball All-Time All-Commonwealth Honors

Annville, PA – The Commonwealth Conference released the 2014 women's volleyball conference awards on Friday, with Messiah College honored with five recognitions. Jane Underman and Kristen Douglas were each named to the First Team, with Emily Zellers and Brooke Gallagher named Second Team. Alyssa Vorbeck was also recognized as Honorable Mention.
 
Both Underman and Douglas earned the First Team nod as outside hitters, a significant recognition considering just three outside hitters are named to the group. The play of the Falcons' hitters back up the honor, however, as Underman (380) and Douglas (302) are second and fifth, respectively, in total kills. Underman has also hit an impressive .250 on the season, while Douglas' hitting has improved as the season marched forward; Douglas has hit .212 or better in nine of her last 11 matches (seven of those matches have been .270 or better).
 
Brooke Gallagher is tabbed with setting up Underman, Douglas, and others, and has broke out in her first full season as starter. She is first in the Commonwealth with 1,060 assists total assists and 9.81 assists per set. She also leads the team with 37 service aces.
 
Emily Zellers Second Team honor is for libero, where she leads Messiah with 440 digs. Her steady play and deft passing has been key to the Falcons' run of 15 wins in their last 17 matches.
 
Alyssa Vorbeck is second in the Commonwealth with a .282 hitting percentage, also second with 71 total blocks. She is third on the team with 166 kills and has grown into a key middle hitter in the Falcons' attack.
 
Messiah is set to play at Stevenson on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for the Commonwealth Championship. The game will mark the Falcons' fourth-straight appearance in the conference finale.
