Carissa Gehman was honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and Longstreth Field Hockey on Monday as a Third Team All-American. The honor comes two weeks after Gehman and teammate
Becky Ely were
named All-Region.
The Messiah forward exploded this season to score 54 points on 26 goals and two assists. Her points total is the most for a first-year Falcon since Danae (Chambers) Hollenbach scored 63 points in 2001. The collegiate season ended with Gehman seventh in the nation in goals per game (1.18) and 13th in points per game (2.45), respectively.
Gehman scored at least two goals in nine different game this season. She also tallied four goals in the Falcons' four conference and NCAA postseason games. She was also tied with
Taylor Holt with four game-winners for Messiah.
This season the Falcons won their eighth-straight Commonwealth Championship and advanced to their 14th-straight NCAA Championships Tournament. After defeating Kenyon in the First Round, the Falcons lost 2-0 to Catholic University and finished the season with a 15-7 record.
