Annville, PA – One day after being named All-Commonwealth for the fourth time in four years, Lizzy Keeney was honored by the Middle Atlantic Conference in being named the 2014 MAC Scholar-Athlete for Women's Lacrosse.

The Scholar-Athlete award is given to a senior in each men's and women's sport of each sport season. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.20 (4.0 scale). Historically, recipients hold GPA's north of 3.40 and are regarded as academic leaders in their respective sport.

The MAC Awards Committee bases selection of recipients on an even balance (50-50) of both academic and athletic prowess.

Keeney, a former conference Rookie of the Year, carries a 3.47 GPA and is majoring in Education with a Certification for Grades 4-8. She has twice been named IWLCA All-Region (2012, 2013) and has led the Falcons into the Commonwealth Championships Tournament as the No. 1 seed in 2014.

Entering this week's game, Keeney is already the program record holder for career draw controls (DC) and her 88 DC this season is itself a single-season record. She is also just 14 goals shy of tying Rachel Dirksen as the program's leader for goals scored; Dirksen is the all-time goals leader with 238 tallies and, coincidentally, is the last Falcon to win the Scholar-Athlete award for women's lacrosse.

Nevertheless, Keeney will also graduate second all-time in total points and in the top four for all-time assists.

For Messiah College, Keeney is the third Falcon to win a MAC Scholar-Athlete award this year joining Joshua Wood and Alicia Frey in men's and women's soccer, respectively.
