Beitz, Koser, Malmberg Earn Falls To Surge Falcons Past E-Town

Elizabethtown, PA - The Falcons received falls from Derek Beitz, Kyle Koser, and Lucas Malmberg to surge past the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College 25-16 Friday evening. 

The match started at 141 pounds where defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Kaleb Loht earned six takedowns to earn a 15-6 major decision over Chad Lammer to give the Falcons an early 4-0 lead.
 
The Blue Jays answered with a 14-5 major decision by Mike Lammer over Adam Peris and evened the score at 4 a piece. Elizabethtown continued their winning streak with a close 7-4 decision by Chris Kummerer over the Falcons Josh Toal to take a 7-4 lead.
 
Messiah's Derek Beitz responded with a quick takedown and turned his opponent to his back and earned a speedy 0:50 fall. The pin stole the lead from the Blue Jays, and gave the Falcons a 10-7 lead.
 
The Blue Jays Zeke Zimmer evened the score at ten a piece with a 10-6 decision over the Falcons Ben Wise.  Messiah dropped another decision at 184 pounds when Elizabethtown's Luke Fernandez defeated Jeremy Bailes by a 9-2 decision.
 
At 197 pounds Kyle Koser asserted his dominance early with a takedown and 5 near fall points in the first period. Koser finished the match with a fall in 3:30 and extended the Falcons lead to 16-13.
 
The most exciting match of the night came at the 285 pound weight class where Messiah's Jason Wright defeated Elizabethtown's Jeremy Rieth 4-3 in triple overtime. Both wrestlers were tied at 1 a piece at the end of regulation. They went through two regulations of overtime until Jason Wright earned the final escape point and captured the 4-3 sudden victory decision.
 
No. 2 nationally ranked Lucas Malmberg continued his dominant wrestling with a fall in 4:12 over Phillip Torresanni and secured the Falcons team victory increasing the lead to 25-13.
 
Elizabethtown won the 133 pound weight class by decision and made the final score 25-16 in the Falcons favor.
 
Messiah improves to 18-1 and is currently ranked 8th in NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) rankings. The Falcons will be back in action tomorrow night when they travel to The College of New Jersey to wrestle the Lions.
