Grantham, PA - Last month, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted more than 200 students from the Downey School in Harrisburg, Pa. Student-athletes had the opportunity to interact with the Downey students through games and activities, and a few were able to share personal stories of triumph and lessons learned through sport.
SAAC is a collection of athletic team representatives who provide valuable input that effects decision-making and policy within the NCAA, the Middle Atlantic Conference, and our campus community. One of the focal points promoted by SAAC is community service. Giving back to the community helps foster a venue for passion and service, and provides leadership opportunities for SAAC representatives and other student-athletes.
The Messiah College SAAC, along with other Messiah student-athletes, recently hosted Downey Days on campus. Downey students from kindergarten, first grade, and second grade visited campus, toured the Oakes Museum, and interacted with Messiah student-athletes over lunch. The Downey students also had the opportunity to play games with Messiah student-athletes in Hitchcock Arena.
Messiah College alum and AROMA ministry coordinator,
Danny Thompson '12, facilitated the games and provided excitement and enthusiasm that inspired young and old alike.
