GRANTHAM, Pa. – Messiah men's soccer is just 12 weeks away from the starting the 2017 season, and today they released both the schedule and roster for their upcoming campaign. The incoming first-year class includes five field players.
"We are looking forward to getting underway later this summer," head coach
Brad McCarty said. "We're also looking forward to the contribution of this incoming class to our team. We believe they are great fits for Messiah and our program."
In addition to five newcomers, the Falcons will also be joined by transfer
Danny Brandt, who competed for Messiah in both 2013 and 2014. Brandt played most recently at Wheaton College (Ill.) where he received a medical hardship after suffering an injury early in the 2016 season. The Messiah roster includes 26 total players, with six seniors, eight juniors, and seven sophomores.
The Falcons are set to start the 2017 season against Chapman University on Sept. 1. The game will be played at the University of Mary Washington, and the Falcons will play the host Eagles on the very next day. Messiah's first home game of the season will be their fourth match overall, against Montclair State on Saturday, Sept. 9.
Just three of the Falcons' first nine games are scheduled for Shoemaker Field, though five of their final nine games will be played in front of the home crowd. Messiah's first conference game comes on Saturday, Sept. 30 when Alvernia travels to Shoemaker. After the final non-conference game against Johns Hopkins on Thursday, Oct. 5, the Falcons will play six-straight conference games to end the regular-season.
