Messiah Track & Field alumnus Jason Brown returns to the Falcons coaching staff for his fourth season in 2013-14 as the horizontal jumps coach (Long Jump and Triple Jump).
A 2009 marketing major and sports management minor, the Glenmoore, PA native was a member of the Messiah Track & Field team all four years he was at Messiah, competing in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, and Decathlon/Pentathlon. Brown finished All-Conference 9 times, and today Brown’s best finish in the Decathlon still stands as the 8th best decathlon completed by a Messiah athlete.
During his career at Messiah, Brown helped Messiah win its first Indoor Conference title in 2008, tying Elizabethtown for first overall with 135 team points. The next year, as a senior captain, he helped the Falcons defend their title, earning the program’s first outright Indoor Conference Title, and second in a row. Brown was also instrumental in Messiah’s back-to-back 2nd place finishes at the Outdoor MAC Championships in 2008 and 2009.
Jason remains active in the sport of Track & Field. He is a member of the USATF Coaches Registry and certified through the USATF Level I coaching course. Additionally, Jason continued his education by completing his certification for USATF Level II Coaching in Jumps (Hayward Bay, CA).
Brown did not stop training after he graduated, becoming a core member of S.W.I.F.T (strength, wisdom, integrity, faith, and truth) Racing -- a faith based running club founded by Messiah College alumni. He began to prepare to compete in the Isocathlon (Double Decathlon) and Tetradecathlon (Double Heptathlon.) The Isocathlon includes every outdoor track and field event, and the Tetradecathlon includes every indoor track event, both contested over 2 days. Jason competed at the 2010 Helsinki International Tetradecathlon and finished 3rd overall. He also competed at the 2010 Double Decathlon World Championships and finished 9th overall. A true renaissance man, Brown has also run in many track meets and cross country events for S.W.I.F.T., and raced for them at the 2010 USATF Cross Country Club Nationals.
Jason currently works in business development and marketing for Gichner Systems Group in Dallastown, PA. When he’s not working, coaching, or training, Brown enjoys partaking in adventure racing (6-48 hour triathlon consisting of canoeing, mountain biking, and running/orienteering) as well as playing bass and leading worship for multiple churches in Harrisburg and West Chester.
