Grantham, PA -- Messiah College's Kai Kasiguran, a senior on the Men's Soccer team, was drafted in the first round of the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft.
The 2008 MLS Super Draft was held on Friday, Jan. 18 where the first four rounds were conducted, and the supplemental draft was held a week later with another four rounds.
The Chicago Fire took the midfielder with the twelfth pick in the draft and was their third midfielder taken overall. Kasiguran was recently at the adidas MLS Combine in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he was the only Division III athlete invited to participate.
"The combine was a lot of fun, and I felt the Messiah Men's Soccer program prepared me well for the experience," said Kai Kasiguran. "It is an honor to be drafted and I'm excited to see what happens in the next few months."
Kasiguran is the second player from Messiah College that has been drafted by a MLS team, as Hayden Woodworth was drafted by D.C. United back in 2003. Both players were named the NSCAA Division III National Player of the Year their senior year, and were invited to the MLS Combine.
In addition to Kasiguran, there were two other NCAA Division III players taken in the supplemental draft--UCSC's Adam Smarte (San Jose Earthquakes) and Trinity's Kyle Altman (New England Revolution).
