Grantham, PA - Coming off an emotional
victory over Lycoming College on Friday night, the Falcons hosted the annual Messiah Open on Saturday in Hitchcock Arena.
The tournament was unscored but featured participants from Gettysburg College, Wilkes University, Lycoming College, Elizabethtown College, Liberty University, Franklin & Marshall College, TCNJ, Waynesburg University, and Washington and Jefferson College.
Messiah had seven wrestlers place in the top four of their respective weight classes, with freshman
Tom Kuegler leading the way with a 2nd place finish at 184. Tom was competing in his first official matches since transferring into Messiah this month.
He led early with three takedowns in the first two periods, but couldn't hold off Anthony Bonaventura from Waynesburg.
Also finishing 2nd was junior
Spencer Alexander at 125.
Sophomore David Standridge produced his best performance in his two years as a Messiah wrestler, winning six matches (four by pin) on his way to earning 3rd place at 149. Also earning 3rd place were
Josh Bressler (157) and
Charles Jones (197).
Rounding out the place-finishers for the Falcons were freshman Steve Cross (141) and sophomore Steven Cannon (174), both with 4th place finishes.
