Reading, PA – Coming into this conference match-up, the men of Messiah were 4-2, while the women were 3-3. Both teams couldn't keep up with the Lions of Albright College though, losing 157-97 on the men's side, and 142-120 on the women's side.
The two teams had some close races and the wins were coming from both sides for most of the day. The Lions proved to have the better finishing squad, winning six of the final eight events.
The closest race of the day came in the women's 100-yard freestyle. Junior Hannah Schaffer was just out-touched at the wall against Gwen Stefan of Albright by three hundredths of a second.
Just two events later, in the women's 200-yard backstroke, freshman
Caitlin Magaw came in second by only 0.23 of a second.
Breaststroke was the strongest event in this meet for the Falcons. Messiah won both the 100 and 200-yard events on the men and women's sides. Junior
Daniel Wingert took both of those for the men with times of 1:03.74 and 2:18.17, respectively. Senior
Angela Klaczak won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.15) while freshman
Anna McArdle won the 200-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of 2:36.64.
Some highlights on the men's side include a first and second finish in the 200-yard IM by senior
Tim Alarcon (2:08.19) and freshman
Sam Kidd (2:21.17). Along with that was a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:33.16.
The next swim for the Falcons will come on December 4 at Dickinson College. The meet is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
