Washington D.C. – Last year Catholic University came to Shoemaker Field where the Falcons bested the Cardinals in an exciting game 2-1. It would prove to be another exciting match-up as the Falcons traveled down to D.C.
Just 3:31 into the game the Falcons earned themselves a free kick just outside of the box on the left side. Sophomore
Brian Ramirez was on the ball, as the whistle blew he tapped it over to classmate
Jack Thompson who sent a shot sailing towards the goal and into the net. That goal counted as Ramirez' fourth assist and Thompson's third goal on the season.
The Falcons continued to get opportunities throughout the game but their efforts came out fruitless. Not for lack of chances though as they recorded 20 shots total from eight different players. The game ended 1-0, improving the Falcons' record to 5-0-1.
The result is sophomore
Brandon West's second shutout of the season. He adds one save in this game bringing his total for the season to 15.
“I think we did a good job of controlling the ball in the midfield which set us up for a lot of good chances near the goal. Unfortunately we were unable to capitalize on a lot of them,” head coach
Brad McCarty said after the game. “Catholic came out to play and they were very direct in putting pressure on us.”
The next match for the Falcons will be at home against Dickinson College on September 18 at 7:00 p.m.
