XML Box Score Reading, PA – Messiah College men's soccer finished their regular-season schedule on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Albright College. The win moved the Falcons to 18-1 overall and also completed an undefeated season (9-0) in the Commonwealth Conference.
The Falcons came out firing against the Lions, launching four shots in the first 13 minutes, the last of which hit the post off the foot of
Brian Ramirez. Altogether the Falcons would attempt 11 shots in the first-half, and they finally got past keeper Austin Aldinger in the 32nd minute with
Sheldon Myer's third goal of the year.
The score opened the floodgates for Messiah, as they would collect two more goals before the break.
Jacob Bender doubled the Falcons' lead in the 43rd minute off a pass from
Robby Johnson and, less than two minutes later,
Carter Robbins put the Falcons up 3-0 with a header off a corner kick.
Shortly after the second-half started Messiah's
Joshua Wood added the team's fourth goal off an assist from
Jack Thompson. The score was the duo's ninth time combining for a goal this year, with seven of those instances ending with a tally by Wood.
The Falcons finished with 25 shots on the night, with Aldinger collecting six saves.
Brandon West,
Aaron Hennigan, and
Jonathan Weaver split time in the net for Messiah with West collecting the team's lone save. The shutout was Messiah's eighth of the season.
The loss drops Albright to 7-10-2 overall, including 3-5-1 in the Commonwealth.
The undefeated conference season is the Falcons' fifth-straight, with their conference regular-season win streak, which dates back into the 2008 season, now sitting at 43 games.
Messiah will now look ahead to the Commonwealth Championships' Semifinal match-up on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 p.m. The No. 1-seeded Falcons will host the winner of the Quarterfinal game between Lycoming and Lebanon Valley.
