Final Brackets

Grantham, PA - The Falcons finished in first place overall with a score of 128 points, four individual champions and 12 total place winners. As a team, they finished 39 points ahead of second place Wheaton College. Nine teams competed in the invitational.

The 174-pound weight class can highlight Messiah's dominating performance for the day. The Falcons took home 3 of the top four places with an all-Messiah championship bout. Ricardo Plummer narrowly edged out Ben Kramer for the title 7-5. Jonathan Goodwin took fourth place and had a team-leading four pins in the tournament.

There were two other all-Messiah bouts that took place in the 157-pound weight class leading up to third place. Jake English defeated Larry Cannon 5-3 and then English faced off against Kalann Washington for the third place spot. English won it with a 4-0 decision.

Also earning top honors for the day were Lucas Malmberg (125), Kaleb Loht (141), and Josh Thomson (184). Malmberg showed off an impressive wrestling style in his first collegiate match, winning his final bout with a 13-1 major decision.

"Lucas was explosive and entertaining throughout the day," said head coach Bryan Brunk about the freshman. "He wrestles with a sense of abandon and some real grit."

Loht and Thomson picked up where they left off last year, each pinning at least two of their opponents.

"We had a great showing for our first rehearsal of the season," said coach Brunk. "But that is truly how we view all competitions leading up to the end of the year, as simply a rehearsal."

Chris Williamson took home third place in the 149-pound bracket, collecting three major decisions and a fall along the way.

In the heavyweights (285), Charles Jones secured a spot in the championship but was barely edged out 4-3 for a second place finish.

The Falcons will look to build upon their early success when they travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pa., for the John Reese duals next Saturday, Nov. 9.
