Team Scores
Grantham, PA – Messiah College men's and women's swimming impressed and provided thrills on Saturday in a quad meet with Hood, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Widener. The women won all three match-ups with the men defeating FDU and losing narrowly to both Hood and Widener. The men's meet with Widener was especially close with Pride outscoring the Falcons by just two points (103-101).

"We had many stellar performances today," Messiah head coach
Nancy Luley said. "It's great see so many swimmers punch tickets to the MACs and for our teams to compete as hard as they did."

The women dominated on the day, winning by scores of 171-16 (FDU), 140-64 (Hood), and 142-62 (Widener).
Tara Freeman broke the school records in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. In the 50 swim Freeman finished at 24.73 to edge the record held by teammate Hannah Schaffer (25.04). Freeman and Schaffer then finished one-two in the 100 freestyle. Freeman tied Schaffer's mark at 54.66, with Schaffer finished at 56.67, before Freeman set a new mark in the first leg of the 400 relay with a time of 54.60.

Emily Reale also set a record in the 400 IM. She finished second overall on Saturday but her time of 4:54.88 was more than a second better than the mark of 4:55.99 held by 2013 graduate
Katelynn Sagaser.
Lauren Clune set a pool record of her own in the mile swim, finishing at 18:52.42.

On the men's side
Chad Alshouse finished first in the 400 IM to fall just short of the College record of 4:29.12. Teammate
Luke Sagaser finished fourth in the event at 4:44.57.

Nate Brown also came close to a setting a new mark, as he finished the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.02—just 0.16 behind the record. Brown finished second overall in the event on Saturday.
Daniel Jessen finished third at 23.09.

Aaron Eckman finished second in the mile swim (17:59.83), and
Nick Wieder second in each the 200 freestyle (1:52:38), 100 butterfly (56.25), and 500 freestyle (5:07.46) in other highlights.
Daniel Wingert also took a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke at 1:03.14.

The strong performances for the men all added up to a win over Widener and narrow losses to both Hood (112-92) and Widener (103-101).

"We had a big group of our men swim well today," Luley said, adding, too, that a few members of the team were either injured or studying abroad. "A few of our guys came close to records today, but the big thing is that we're excited for such great swims this early in the season."

The Falcons will have a short break before traveling to swim against Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The meet will start at 6:00 p.m.
