Selinsgrove, PA - The Falcons had a fantastic end to the regular winter season Friday as they competed for the third time this year at Susquehanna University. Although the meet was officially un-scored, with no finals for the short distance events, many athletes still performed well in their events and achieved qualifying times for the MAC Championship.
In the men's weight throw, sophomore
Fred Fulton had a good throw of 16.11m (52' 10.25”). Freshmen
Michael Boyles also had a satisfying day in the weight throw, setting a new personal record of 11.48m (37' 8”).
Fulton also did very well in the men's shot put, grabbing first place with a throw of 16.79m (55' 1”).
Both the men's and women's team had several excellent performances in the one mile run, including two men running MAC qualifying times. Senior
Seth Umbenhauer and freshman
Nathan Fleming finished just seconds apart in their heat, Fleming placing second and Umbenhauer third. Fleming's time was a life-time personal record of 4:46.47, while Umbehauer also had a personal best in the mile of 4:48.20.
In the women's one mile run, junior
Victoria Hepp set a college personal best of 5:52.21, placing first in her heat. In the second-to-fastest heat of the mile, junior Jennifer Bender had an excellent race, grabbing first in her heat with a personal best of 5:26.46. Senior
Brenda Flaherty also had a good race in the mile, placing fifth in the same heat as Bender at 5:35.55.
The Messiah women also had a good day in the 200 meter dash. Junior
Ersikha Eugene had an excellent performance in the event, placing fourth in her heat with a personal best of 28.98, dropping nearly a second from her previous best time. Junior
Liz Martin performed very well, grabbing first in her heat and sixth overall, at 27.03 seconds. In addition, freshman
Laura Castilow placed third in her heat at 30.27 seconds.
In the men's 5,000 meter run, freshman
Alex Faus had an excellent race. Faus finished second in the first section of the 5,000 meter run, with a life-time personal record of 16:24.69. With this time, Faus also finally made MAC qualifying standards after coming not quite close enough to that time at two different races during the season.
With their regular season now behind them, the Falcons will be able to fully concentrate on preparing for the MAC Championship this upcoming weekend at Lehigh University. The majority of the athletes will be fighting for points next weekend as many of them are qualified to compete in their respective events.
