Falcons Soar Amongst Division I And II Competition

The Falcons had a busy weekend as the team faced two days of competition at Moravian College's Greyhound Invitational. A number of athletes placed significantly high in their events, as both teams competed against Division I and Division II schools.
 
In addition, Aaron Reynolds performed for the team during the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University on Friday in the men's 800 meter run. Reyolds finished 32nd out of fifty Division I and Division II athletes. Reynold's time of 1:54.05 was one of his best times in his running career, second only to his personal best time of 1:53.89.
 
Among the most significant highlights of the competition at Moravian, was Fred Fulton's performance in the men's hammer throw. Fulton claimed second in the event on Friday, setting another new school record at 53.73m (176' 3”). In addition, Fulton once again placed first in the men's shot put, throwing 17.99m (59' 0.25”). Fulton's throw was farther than his previous personal best of 17.86m (58' 7.25") which he set in the indoor shot put, at the NCAA National Championship this year. Fulton also placed third in the men's discus at 45.39m (148' 11”)
 
Trevor Stutzman also performed well for the men's team, claiming second in the discus at 46.27m (151' 10”). Stutzman also placed fourth in the shot put, throwing 15.29m (50' 2”).
 
In the javelin, Celtson Toote achieved a personal best throw of 48.62m (158' 4”), throwing about two meters further than his previous personal record.
 
Kira Maier shined for the women's team in the throwing events, placing sixth with a throw of 41.49m (136' 1”).
 
The Falcons also had three strong performances in the men's and women's jumping events, including a first place finish in the pole vault by Colin Reisler. Reisler jump of 4.45m (14' 7.25”) less than two inches away from his persona best of 14' 9.”
 
Rachel Bjorkman and Hilary Pelkey both jumped the same height in the women's high jump, claiming seventh in the event along with five other athletes who jumped the same height. Bjorkman and Pelkey jumped 1.48m (4' 10.25”).
 
Liz Martin had two outstanding performances this weekend, finishing second in both the 400 meter hurdles and the 100 meter dash. Martin finished at 1:03.43 in the hurdles and at 12.23 seconds in finals for the 100 meter dash.
 
In other news for the women, Emily Senning performed very well, finishing fourth overall in the women's 800 meter run with a college best of 2:20.32.
 
Alex Yoder also raced well this weekend, finishing second in the 400 meter dash at 48.99 seconds. Yoder's time was a significant personal record, since his original seed time was set at his previous personal record of 49.57.
 
In other news for the men's team, Nathan Fleming had a strong race in his first 3,000 meter steeplechase, racing a MAC qualifying time of 10:31.61. In the men's 5,000 meter run, John Ausel and Tyler Sensing raced very well against very tough competition. Ausel finished thirteenth overall out of 32 competitors with a new personal best of 15:39.75, while Sensing finished seventeenth at 15:57.17.
 
Both the men's and women's teams finished off the weekend with excellent races in the 4x400 meter relay. The men's team, which included Trevor Praetsch, Drew Engle, Nick White and Jonphillip McGill, placed third overall in the event with a time of 3:26.07. As for the women, their team which included Liz Martin, Emily Senning, Stephanie Miller, and Jacquelyn Young, grabbed eleventh out of twenty competing teams at 4:16.25.
 
Following this week's competition, the Falcons have only the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg next weekend, and then the team will be done with their regular season meets. It has been an excellent season so far for the Falcons and it will be exciting to see the culmination of all the outstanding performances this season for the Falcons as the MAC Championship begins in two weeks.
