Gettysburg, PA - Messiah's men and women split results on the track and field at Gettysburg today, bringing home a first place for the men and a second place finish for the women. The Messiah men beat Gettysburg College by 37 points, while the women lost to Gettysburg by only three points. The men's team won all but three of the day's events and set ten new personal records.
In the field events, three Messiah men placed first through third in the men's shot put. Sophomore
Fred Fulton claimed the first place spot with a throw of 17.04m while sophomore
Trevor Stutzman grabbed second, throwing 15.51m. Freshman
Michael Boyles placed third in the event with a personal best of 12.29m.
The Messiah men also threw well in the men's discus, Stutzman finishing first at 47.36m. Fulton placed third in the event, followed directly by freshman
Matthew Miller in fourth, who set a personal record of 37.10m. Boyles also set a personal record in the men's discus, placing fifth at 35.19m.
In addition, Miller placed first in the men's javelin, throwing a personal best of 50.00m. Sophomore
Drew Engle also had a personal record in the men's javelin placing fourth at 43.58m.
In the track events, freshman
John Ausel took home a first place finish in the men's 1500 meter run, racing a personal best of 4:13.48. Placing directly behind Ausel in second and third were freshmen
Cameron Shirk and
Christopher Scheib, who finished with times of 4:17.29 and 4:18.12.
In the men's 3,000 meter run, freshman Tyler Sensing claimed first place with a personal record of 9:19.41. Junior
Abram Albert and freshman
Ryan Laird also ran personal bests during the 3,000 meter run (10:10.84 and 10:04.43 respectively).
The men also had a strong showing in some of the shorter track events, including a first place finish in the men's 100 and 200 meter dashes by
Alex Yoder with respective times of 11.13 seconds and 23.22 seconds. Junior Trevor Praesch won the men's 400 meter hurdles (57.52) while senior
Aaron Reynolds grabbed first in the men's 400 meter dash (51.84 seconds). Sophomore Jonphillip McGill won the men's 800 meter run (2:04.80).
In addition,
Colin Reisler claimed first in the men's pole vault with a height of 13'6.0” while junior
Tim Hampton set a personal record of 1.53m (5') in the men's high jump.
The Messiah women also had several excellent performances with three new personal records set. In the track events, senior
Courtney Grammar placed first in the women's 200 meter dash at 28.48 seconds. Grammar was followed in second by sophomore
Tiffany Burrows, who finished at 29.21 seconds.
Freshman
Emily Senning performed well for the Falcons, placing first in both the women's 400 meter dash and the women's 800 meter run (1:02.57 and 2:34.05 respectively). Burrows also claimed second in the 400 meter dash at 1:04.97.
The Messiah women had several notable performances in the day's field events. In the women's high jump, senior
Kira Maier placed first at 1.48m. Senior Hilary Pelkey placed first in the women's long jump with a personal record of 4.94m.
Maier also performed well in the women's shot put and discus, placing first in both events with throws of 10.64m and 39.65m. Pelkey also did well in the women's shot put, placing second with a throw of 10.52m. In addition, junior
Jenny Kutzner had a personal record in the women's discus, throwing 20.49m.
The Messiah women also did well in the javelin, sophomore
Alyssa Mills grabbing first with a throw of 30.54m, while freshman
Brittany Paine set a personal record 15.22m.
The Falcons will be returning to action soon as they compete at the Millersville Metrics meet this Saturday.
