1/18/2014 9:32:00 PM

Waynesburg, PA - Following up a dual-meet win last night, the Falcons defeated No. 23 Heidelberg University (25-12), No. 18 Waynesburg University (27-13), and Penn State DuBois (48-3) at a quad-match hosted by Waynesburg to go 3-0 for the day. The results bring Messiah's overall duals record to 17-2 for the season.

As the matches always do, the 125-pounders started things off and Messiah's Lucas Malmberg collected the day's first pin against Heidelberg's Delian Schneider (6:34). Malmberg also won his second match against his Waynesburg opponent with an 8-4 decision. He is currently tied for second on the team for the most wins this season.

Kyle Coblentz also went 2-0 for the day but did so by the slimmest of margins with a 2-0 decision against Heidelberg's Justin Kihn. However, Coblentz kept his second opponent scoreless as well with a 6-0 decision.

Current wins leader on the Falcons' team this season and No. 1 ranked Kaleb Loht continued his streak with two wins on the day. Loht first collected a major decision (10-0) against Heidelberg and later a pin (1:52) against his Waynesburg adversary.

Messiah's Ricardo Plummer was the fourth to collect two wins overall: 8-2 and 3-2 decisions against Heidelberg and Waynesburg, respectively. The second match proved to be one of the biggest bouts of the entire quad-match. Seventh-ranked Plummer defeated No. 4 Anthony Bonaventura giving Messiah the five-point lead heading into the 184-pound bout.

On that note, 184-pounder Josh Thomson pinned all three of the opponents that he faced in the duals. All of them came quicker than four minutes with the fastest happening in just 57 seconds.

Having been out for most of the season due to injury, senior grappler Russell Jones highlighted the day for the 197-pounders by pinning his Waynesburg opponent with 10 seconds to spare in the first period.

To highlight Messiah's match against Penn State DuBois, half of the wins in the match came by way of pin. Luke Weaver (285) pinned his opponent the quickest at just 26 seconds.

The Falcons will next wrestle in the MAC Championships, which will take place in Hitchcock Arena on Saturday, Jan. 25. The bouts are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. with skin-check at 8:30 a.m. and weigh-in at 9:00 a.m.

Competing in this year's MAC Championships will be Messiah, Wilkes, Lycoming, King's, Elizabethtown, and Delaware Valley.
