Falcons Finish 3-0 at Reese Duals

Wilkes-Barre, PA - Messiah wrestling took wins over Gloucester, SUNY Oneonta, and Johns Hopkins to win all three match-ups at the John Reese Duals on Saturday at Wilkes University.

Match One: Messiah 22, Gloucester 13
The Falcons were in control of their first dual meet against Gloucester. Messiah trailed 3-0 early in the match when Kurt Rodriguez grinded out a 4-2 decision to tie the match at three a piece. The Falcons tallied three wins in a row with a major decision from Jared Furry, a decision from Chris Williamson, and a decision from Tag Wilber to give Messiah 13-3.
 
Gloucester battled back with two wins of their own and made the score 13-9. Jeremy Bailes got the Falcons back in the win column with a 5-2 decision. At 197 pounds Kyle Koser earned the only pin of the night and gave the Falcons the 22-13 victory.

Match Two: Messiah 21, Oneonta 20
In the second dual meet of the day the Falcons defeated SUNY Oneonta 21-20 in a close dual meet. Hunter Harris started the match off right for Messiah earning the fall over his opponent in 5:38. Messiah dropped the next two matches by a decision and major decision before Chris Williamson earned a major decision and gave Messiah a 9-7 lead.
 
At 157 pounds Larry Cannon nearly won by technical fall but instead earned a 15-2 major decision. Jeff Hojnacki kept the Falcons rolling with another major decision and the Falcons led 17-7.  At 174 pounds no. 1 Josh Thomson lost his bout by fall. Jeremy Bailes responded by earning a 12-6 decision over his Oneonta opponent and the Falcons now led 21-13.
 
Oneonta responded and won by major decision at 197 pounds to tighten the score to 21-17 in favor of the Falcons. Oneonta needed a major decision, technical fall, or pin to win the match but only won by decision over the Falcons Nick Hanever 8-5.

Match Three: Messiah 34, Johns Hopkins 12
The third and final dual meet of the day was dominated by the Falcons as they beat Johns Hopkins 34-12. The match of the day was at 124 pounds as the Falcons no. 2 Lucas Malmberg wrestled Johns Hopkins no. 4 Paul Bewak. Malmberg proved to be the tougher wrestler and grinded out a 2-1 victory.
 
At 149 pounds Chris Williamson earned a fall in 5:59 to increase the Falcons lead 12-3. At 197 pounds Kyle Koser won a 11-0 major decision and Isaiah Shipman followed with a fall at 285 pounds.
 
The Falcons are now 3-0 and will travel to Bristol, Rhode Island next weekend to compete in the Roger Williams Invitational.
