ResultsCarlisle, PA – Messiah College women's swimming battled closely with Dickinson on Tuesday night but fell by a narrow score, 109-96.
Â
The Falcons got off to a good start with a win in the 200 medley relay, but Dickinson took big points in both the 1000 freestyle and 200 freestyle. The 200 was especially close, with Messiah's
Emily Reale being edged by just 0.29 seconds.
Â
Tara Freeman and
Kaitlin Wingert collected momentum again for the Falcons with wins in the 50 freestyle and 200 IM, respectively. Wingert's win came with a time of 2:16.87, just 0.08 seconds faster than Dickinson's runner-up.
Â
Freeman then won the 100 butterfly, but Dickinson took the first three finishers (and 13 points overall) in the ensuing 100 freestyle.
Â
Gabrielle Brubaker (1:12.63) took first in the 100 breaststroke to close the gap, but not even Messiah's first- and second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle relay was enough to fully catch up.
Â
Still, the Falcons' competitive showing against Dickinson should give encouragement as they prepare for six conference opponents on their next five dates. That stretch will start at Lycoming this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
