Lincoln, NB - Freshman Tim Moses vaulted 4.85m (15'11") on Friday and finished in sixth place to earn an All-American honor in the Pole Vault. He became the first-ever Falcon to earn the national honor in the event. Trevor Stutzman followed on Saturday with an All-American performance of his own as he finished in eighth place in the Shot Put.

"It's great to see Tim become an All-American in his trip to nationals," Messiah head coach Dale Fogelsanger said of Moses. "He has a great career ahead of himself at Messiah College."
Moses' vault was short of his season-best mak of 4.90m (16'0.75") but it was a impressive enough to tie two others for the fourth-best showing; he took the sixth-place honor by way of a tie-breaker in attempts at the 4.85m height.

"I am very pleased to have come here and participated," Moses said. "It was a very good experience and I'm thankful for all the work my coahces did to get me here."

"Tim stayed mentally strong and came back to clear some bars after a few misses along the way," Fogelsanger said, commenting on Moses' one miss at 4.75m and two misses at 4.85m. "It's really exciting to see the honor for him."

Moses cleared his final attempt at 4.85m before missing on all three of his jumps at 4.90m. Michael Bennett from the University of Chicago, Rick Valcin from Dubuque, and Rob Rohe from Wisconsin-La Crosse each cleared 4.90m, wth Bennett taking first-place after clearing the bar on his first attempt.

"With the historically-low winning height, I think I could have done better and could have won it," Moses added, reflecting on first place being within reach. "Still, I'm pleased with this experience and I look forward to doing better in the future."

Conrad Bollinger of Principia and Bryan Klister of Wisconsin-La Crosse matched Moses' leap at 4.85m, though they both did so on their first attempt and finished tied for fourth place.

Stutzman took eighth place on Saturday with a throw of 16.15m (53'0"). Though he faulted on his final two attempts to get a farther mark he was well-ahead of ninth place finisher Ben Tapas of Wisconsin-La Crosse (15.85m). His performance was the second-ever-- and second-straight-- top-eight placement for Messiah in the Shot Put (Fred Fulton, 2013).

"In my prelim throws I was falling back a lot, but it was still good enough to get to the finals," Stutzman said. "The rest of the field didn't compete at their best either, and in the finals I relaxed more and threw better.

"I got a little farther on my last throw, but unfortunately it was a foul."

Colt Feltes of Wartburg took first the event with a throw of 17.87m (58'7.5"). Jeremy Brandt of Wisconsin-Oshkosh finished directly ahead of Stutzman in seventh place with a throw of 16.37m (53'8.5").

"It really is exciting to have to two All-Americans," Fogelsanger said after Stutzman joined Moses in the awards rank. It's really great for these guys and for our program."
