"Today was a good day to get out and compete," said Messiah distance coach
Brian Hager. "Not all the times and numbers were there that we wanted, but it was a good day competitively."
Trevor Stutzman threw very well in his events, placing second in the shot put and third in the discus. Stutzman threw a lifetime personal best on his first attempt in the discus, beating his previous personal record of 48.21m. He then threw even further on his third attempt, setting another personal best and hitting a final mark of 49.62m (162'-09"). Stutzman stated that his throw of 16.78m (55'-00.75") in the shot put tied his lifetime second best distance.
Among the other good performances were Trevor Praestch and
Liz Martin's races in the 400 m hurdles.Both athletes placed second overall in their events, Praestch finishing in 56.25 and Martin at 1:06.49.
Rachel Robison had a solid performance in the pole vault, tying for second in the event. Despite the windy conditions, Robison secured her spot by clearing a height of 3.2m (10' 6").
In addition,
Marie Johnson performed very well in her events, placing fourth in the triple jump with a new college best mark of 10.80m (35' 5.25"). Johnson also placed fifth in the high jump 1.53m (5' 0.25"). Additionally,
Kaitlyn Hostetler landed a seventh place spot in the long jump, also hitting a college best mark of 5.13m (16'10").
Nicholas White, as has been his regularity this season, ran a good race in the 110 hurdles, placing fourth overall.
Martin also had a solid performance, along with
Alex Yoder, in the 400 meter dash, both placing second in the event.
Messiah will continue to look for good performances as they host the Messiah Invitational from Apr. 10-12, 2014.
