Event: 400m Hurdles Thurs., May 20 - 6:30 p.m. Trials Sat., May 22 - 4:00 p.m. Finals        * Top nine advance from trials to finals
2014 Best Performance: 1:01.49 (May 12) Current National Rank: 9th
What you need to know: Liz Martin placed eighth in 2012 in the 400m Hurdles and was seconds away from a higher finish in 2013 before rolling her ankle prior crossing the finish line. This season she's again among the best in the nation and put forth her best time less than 10 days ago at Swarthmore.
The field is again deep and talented, with six of last year's All-Americans-- including champion Heather Gearity-- back for another go. Five of those six competitors are seeded ahead of Martin but, as Martin herself can attest, the event is unpredictable. Â |

Events: Shot Put, Discus Shot: Fri., May 21 - 2:15 p.m. Trials, then Finals Discus: Sat., May 22 - 12:00 p.m. Trials, then Finals         *Top nine advance from trials to finals
2014 Best Performance: Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Shot: 17.55m; 57'7" (April 24) Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Discus: 51.27m; 168'2" (May 1) Current National Rank: 4th in Shot Put, 7th in Discus
What you need to know: Trevor Stutzman finished eighth in the Indoor Shot Put this year and now looks to add hardware from the Outdoor event. He will compete in both the Shot and the Discus after collecting career-best marks in both events this season. The three competitors seeded ahead of him in the Shot are all within less than three feet so the pressure will be on each thrower to perform their best. In the Discus Stutzman is seeded seventh but just five throwers have eclipsed the 170' mark, meaning the All-American finishes are entirely up for grabs.
Colt Feltes is seeded second after winning the Indoor Shot, with Sean Donnelly (fouled each throw in Indoor) leading the way. In total 13 of the 15 final competitors at the Indoor Shot Put are qualified for the Outdoor contest. Â |

Event: Pole Vault Thurs., May 20 - 12:30 p.m. Finals
2014 Best Performance: 4.88m; 16'0" (May 16) Current National Rank: 14th
What you need to know: Tim Moses simultaneously blew away Messiah's school record and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with his vault last week. Like Stutzman he earned an All-American during the Indoor season and he's now ready to contest for a top finish outdoors.
All but one of the top 15 competitors in the Indoor event will be in attendance this weekend, including Indoor champion Michael Bennett (seeded 3rd) and runner-up Rick Valcin (1st).
Moses, Andrew Bartnett (2nd), and Connor O'Neill (15th) are all first-year vaulters seeded in the top 15. |
