Falcons Swim Past Dutchmen, Take Convincing Wins

Grantham, PA - Messiah College men's and women's swimming continued their strong regular-seasons with convincing wins over Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon. The men won by a 124-66 final, with the women winning 134-68.

The men won nine of the 11 official events on Saturay, with the women winning eight of the same total.

Messiah's dominance was evident from the start, with the women taking first in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.57. The men followed suit, winning with a time of 1:44.04.

From there, the Falcons didn't look back as Emily Reale (11:26.22) and Dakota Schmalz (10:38.25) each won the 1000 freestyle. Lauren Clune then led four Messiah finishers in the 200 freestyle with a time of (2:02.29).

Kaitlin Wingert accomplished the same feat--finishing first while leading four Messiah finishers-- in the 50 freestyle, and Daniel Jessen then took first in the same event.

Messiah's commanding victories continued to build throughout the afternoon, with Renee Ormond and Aaron Eckman taking first in the women's and men's 200 IM, repsectively. Laura Penwell and Nick Wieder followed suit in the 100 butterfly, as did Tara Freeman and Schmalz in the 100 freestyle. Katie Reiter (100 backstroke), Jessen (100 backstroke), and Eckman (500 freestyle) all did the same as well.

The men capped off the day with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay behind Schmalz, Sam Kidd, David Whiting, and Nate Brown.

The Falcons will swim one more time in the regular-season, next weekend at Misericorida, before the MAC Championships in mid-February.
