Falcons Tally Two in Each Half, Blank Mustangs

Grantham, PA - The Messiah Falcons took down the Stevenson Mustangs on Thursday night by a 4-0 final. The Falcons dominated possession throughout the contest, out shooting the Mustangs 29-2.

Messiah struck for two goals on each side of the break. Benji Kennel and Nathan Eagan connected for goals in the first-half while Danny Rowe and Bryant Myer tallied after intermission.

After a scoreless first 30 minutes, the Falcons connected for two goals in an eight-minute span to take a 2-0 lead. In the 33rd minute Benji Kennel sent a long ball over top the Mustangs' defense toward Nick West in the corner. West, who was shielded by a defender, took a nifty touch to keep the in the field of play right at the corner of the box. The defender then took West down from behind in the box after West had beaten him to the inside. Kennel stepped up and drilled the free kick to give Messiah a 1-0 lead.

Less than eight minutes later the Falcons were awarded a free kick from about 25 yards out on the left side. Nathan Eagan took the free kick and put a dangerous bounce just inside the six. Zack Bosshard appeared to shield the goalie and the ball skipped untouched into the back of the net.

Messiah took that 2-0 lead to the break but they would add to it early in the second-half. Just over a minute into the second-half, Daktoa Rosenberg sent a ball from the right side to Danny Rowe who was just outside the six. Rowe settled the ball and took a shot that snuck inside the left post to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.

Midway through the second-half Will Cochran was taken down just inches outside the top of the box on the right side. The Falcons were awarded a free kick much to the dismay of the Stevenson defense. Bryant Myer took the free kick and his left-footed strike curled inside the left post and into the side netting to give the Falcons their fourth and final tally on the evening.

Keepers Connor Bell and Jonathan Weaver combined for the shutout with the starter Bell collecting one save in the 15th minute.

With the win the improve to 6-1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth and 12-4-1 on the season. Their seeding for the MAC Commonwealth tournament will be determined after Saturday's action, however the Falcons have locked up home field advantage for the semifinal match next Wednesday.

Messiah will wrap up the regular season on Saturday night when they host Alvernia at 7:30 p.m.
