Falcons Fly Into New Campaign at Early Bird

Carlisle, PA – Messiah College men's and women's track & field started the new season today at the Dickinson Early Bird Invitational. Both teams took second among the six schools that competed in the season-opening competition. Dickinson finished atop the men's and women's board.
 
The Messiah women were led by a number of strong performances including Marie Johnson's first-place finish in the high jump. Johnson cleared 4'11.75" to win the event, and she also took second in the triple jump with a distance of 33'11.25."
 
Tasha Becker also collected a top finish with a time of 20:03.63 in the 5000 meter run. Teammate Alissa Rogers was less than half a second behind in second place with a time of 20:03.00. The quality long distance performances continued with Emma Mason's runner-up time of 11:56.56 in the 3000 meter run.
 
First-year runner Kayla Miller also got off to a great start this season with a first-place time of 65.24 in the 400 meter dash.
 
Additional noteworthy performances for the women included:
  • Kristen Frawley took second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.84, just 0.26 seconds behind winner Katherine Cavanaugh from Gettysburg
  • Christy White finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 31'11.25"
  • Grace Reidel (10'6") and Rachel Robison (10'6") finished second and third in the pole vault, respectively
  • Alyssa McMinn took third in the shot put with a mark of 34'9.75"
 
On the men's side Phil Headland had a great season-opening mile run with a first-place time of 4:35.38.
 
Across the way in the field events Messiah was especially impressive as Tim Moses (16'8.75") won the pole vault and was followed in order by teammates Brandon Stearns (13'11.25"), Dane Cornelius (13'5.25"), Keith Steele (12'11.5"), and Aaron Gray (12'5.5") for the top five spots.
 
Additional noteworthy performances for the men included: 
The Falcons will now take more than a month off before competing again at the Lebanon Valley Multi-Event on Jan. 15, 2016.
