Falcons Drop Dual at Lock Haven

Lock Haven, PA -The No. 7 Falcons of Messiah College fell to the Division I Bald Eagles of Lock Haven University 29-10 on Thursday evening. Messiah earned three victories of the ten bouts from Lucas Malmberg, Ben Swarr, and Kyle Koser.

The match started with a 16-5 major decision by Lucas Malmberg at 125 pounds. Messiah led 4-0, when Lock Haven won six straight bouts at 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, and 174 pounds. Larry Cannon wrestled hard at 157 pounds and lost a close 7-5 decision to Aaron McKinney.

At 165 pounds, Jeff Hojnacki dropped a tight 10-3 decision to Cody Cordes. Next, the Falcons nearly got back into the win column at 174 pounds when Derek Beitz lost a tough 7-5 decision to Travis Moyer.

Trailing 23-4, Messiah took the next two matches at 184 and 197 pounds to decrease Lock Haven's lead to 23-10. Ben Swarr had a dominant victory at 184 pounds with a 10-3 decision over Adam Mackie. Next, Kyle Koser defeated Matt Moore by a 7-1 decision.

The last bout of the night was won by Brad Emerick of Lock Haven by a pin over Jason Wright.
The Falcons fell to 5-2 with the loss and will be back in action on Dec. 29-30 when they compete in the Midlands and the Lock Haven Invitational.
