LHU ClassicEvanston, IL - The No. 7 Falcons of Messiah College took on tough competition by competing in the Lock Haven Classic and the prestigious Midlands on Dec. 29-30; both Division I tournaments.

Lucas Malmberg was the lone Falcon to record a win at the prestigious Midlands Tournament. Malmberg began the day with a tight 8-6 loss to Nathan Boston of Iowa State. Next, Malmberg handled Anthony Rubinetti from Northwestern with a pin in just 2:45. In the next round of the consolation bracket, Malmberg dropped a high scoring 16-13 decision to Ares Capiro of Arizona State.

The second Falcons to compete in the Midlands was
Josh Thomson at 174 pounds. Thomson fell to Jacob Holschlag from Northwestern in the round of 32 by a tight 7-3 decision. Next, Thomson lost by an 8-2 score to Jacob Davis from Eastern Michigan.

Brackets will not be released until the conclusion of the Midlands on Dec. 30.

The Falcons also competed in the Lock Haven Classic where they were the only non Division I team in the field.

Arty Walsh started the day strong at 133 pounds with a 15-7 major decision over Kyle Greenwald of Clarion. Unfortunately, Walsh injured himself and medically forfeited from the rest of the tournament.

At 149 pounds,
Adam Peris went 0-2 on the day with losses to No. 1 seed Daniel Neff of Lock Haven and Kyle Shoop from Lock Haven.

Jeff Hojnacki dropped his first match of the tournament at 165 pounds to DJ Hollingshead from Bucknell. Next, Hojnacki grinded out a tough 6-4 decision over Cory Wiercioch from Pittsburgh in the consolation round. During the next round of consolation wrestling, Hojnacki fell to Patrick Davis from George Mason by a 7-0 decision.

At 184 pounds
Jeremy Bailes started his tournament on the right track with a 9-5 decision over Nicholas Shawley of Clarion. Bailes dropped his next matches to Tristan Sponseller of Lock Haven and Caleb Stockmaster from Kent State.

Kyle Koser finished 1-2 at 197 pounds. Koser dominated Anthony Rossi of George Mason in the round of 16 by a 11-0 major decision. Next, Koser lost a hard fought 5-2 decision to Kyle Conel of Kent State. During the consolation round Koser fell to Adam Mackie from Lock Haven by an 11-4 decision.

Messiah finished 12
th out of 12 teams and will be back in action January 8-9 when they travel to Lycoming College and compete in the Bud Whitehill Duals.
