Final ResultsBethlehem, PA - Messiah women's track & field finished third at the MAC Indoor Championships this weekend at Lehigh University.
Marie Johnson finished first in both the high jump and triple jump to lead the way, with both
Alyssa Mills (pentathlon) and
Rachel Robison (pole vault) also earning gold medal performances.
"From the predictions to the final results, we made up a lot of ground," Messiah head coach
Dale Fogelsanger said. "We really closed the gap on the leader by 20 poins, which was great to see."
Johnson's triple jump peformance was an Indoor personal record (PR). For wining both the high jump and triple jump, as well as earning Second Team in the long jump, Johnson was named the Field Athlete of the Year.
"Marie is getting better and better each time out," Fogelsanger said. "I think she's just going to keep improving, and it was great to see her perform the way she did today."
Backing up Johnson's terrific day were many other Falcons who earned PRs and All-MAC honors. Among them was Mills who led three pentathletes in earning PR marks.
As for Robison, she entered the meet with a seed of first and earned the gold this weekend by four full inches.
In total, Messiah earned 11 First Team All-MAC honors and 10 Second Team honors.
"It was a really cool feeling to see our team come together and support each other today," Fogelsanger said. "We have great student-athletes. It isn't that we don't want to win, but being with our group today and accomplishing what we did, it's pretty special."
