Falcons Place 12 At Messiah Open

Grantham, PA - The Falcons hosted the Messiah Open and placed 12 wrestlers at the tournament. Placers included Adam Peris (149, 6th), Josh Toal (157, 8th), Kalann Washington (165, 2nd), Ben Wise (165, 4th), Jake English (165, 5th), Jason Ayers (165, 8th), Tyler Schell (174, 4th), Jonathan Goodwin (174, 5th), Tyler Hershey (174, 7th), Jeremy Bailes (184, 4th), Nick Havener (285, 7th), and David Giovannacci (285, 8th).

Adam Peris reached the semi finals decision and major decision victory. The Falcon fell in the semi finals to Maryland's Daniel Sanchez by major decision. Peris landed in the fifth place match and lost to another Maryland opponent by major decision.
 
At 157 pounds Josh Toal lost his opening match of the day and earned two victories through the consolation rounds to land himself a spot in the seventh place match. Toal was defeated 11-2 in the seventh place match and finished in eighth place.
 
Messiah had four placer winners in the 165 pound weight class in Kalann Washington (2nd), Ben Wise (4th), Jake English (5th), and Jason Ayers (8th).  Washington met fellow Falcon Jake English in the semi finals and earned an 8-2 decision over his teammate. In the finals Washington lost a tough 12-7 decision to Austin Barley of York College.
 
Ben Wise fell in the semi final round and wrestled back to reach the third place match. Wise lost by major decision to earn fourth place. After losing to teammate Kalann Washington, Jake English won by medical forfeit and brought home fifth place. Jason Ayers was injured in his seventh place bout and lost by medical forfeit.
 
The 174 pound weight class was another bracket that had multiple Messiah place winners. Tyler Schell earned his way to the semi finals before losing a close 4-2 decision. Schell defeated teammate Jonathan Goodwin during the consolation semi finals and lost by major decision in the third place bout to place fourth.
 
After losing to teammate Tyler Schell, Jonathan Goodwin won by medical forfeit and finished in fifth place. Tyler Hershey found himself in the seventh place and earned a 7-5 decision to place seventh.
 
Jeremy Bailes was defeated in the opening round of the tournament and rallied off three straight wins to wrestle for third place. In the third place match, Bailes lost a tough 8-6 decision.
 
Nick Havener went 3-2 at the 285 pound weight class which included a medical forfeit victory over teammate David Giovannacci. Giovannacci also finished 3-2 with the medical forfeit loss to Havener.
 
The Falcons will be back in action when they travel to Elizabethtown College for a dual meet on February 13.
