Falcons Win at DuCharme Invitational

Carlisle, PA – Messiah College track & field continued their strong indoor season at Dickinson College on Saturday, with both teams taking first among their respective competition.
 
Along the way to winning the day, Messiah set a number of personal records and even a few school records.
 
"We really turned the corner today," head coach Dale Fogelsanger said. "We got much closer as a team and our confidence continues to grow."
 
Rachel Robison provided one of many highlights on the evening with a Messiah record performance in the pole vault. She cleared 11'5.75", also setting a Dickinson Kline Center facility record. Her counterpart on the men's side, Tim Moses, also set a facility mark with a leap of 16'4.75". The men actually took the first five spots in the event, with Drew Engle, Dane Cornelius, Brandon Stearn, and Brett Garbrick following behind Moses.
 
In the 55 meter hurdles Messiah was also dominant, with Nicholas White taking first for the men with a time of 7.99 seconds, and Kristen Fawley taking second with a time of 9.17 seconds. Frawley's final time represented a 0.45 second improvement on her preliminary race.
 
In the 300 meter dash Tiffany Burrows took first for the women with a time of 43.36— an improvement of her own College record. Tasha Becker also took a first-place of her own, doing so in the 5000 meter run with a time of (19:28.73).
 
In the relay events the Messiah men took an exiting race against Bridgewater by less 0.10 of a second, 3:31.96 to 3:32.04. The women took first in the 4x200 with a season-best time of 1:54.32.
 
Marie Johnson had a strong day in the field for the women, as she took first in the high jump (5'1.75") and second in the triple jump (34'00.25"). Teammate Hadlee Coker cleared the same mark in the high jump.
 
The Falcons' dominance in the field also shown by both Aaron Powell and Josiah Halls. Powell took first in the high jump (5'10"), and Halls first in the long jump (20'9").

While the Falcons were winning at Dickinson, a small group of Falcons competed at the Haverford Seamus McElligott Invitational. Jared Schatz set a Messiah record in the 5000 meter run witha  time of 15:01.31, and Tyler Sensenig was third with a personal record of 15:45.41. In the mile run Cameron Shirk took fourth place with a personal best time of 4:23.12.

  • Kaitlyn Hostetler took second in the long jump (16'3.25") and third in the triple jump (33'5.25")
  • Rachel Bowser took third in the 300 meter with a time of 46.54.
  • Natalie Ross took third in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:21.36
