Falcons Take Second at 37th Annual Messiah Invite

Grantham, PA – Messiah College women's track & field took second among 17 teams on Saturday at the 37th annual Messiah Track & Field Invite. The Falcons were edged by Misericordia alone, with the margin being just 11.5 points.
 
The Falcons were 29.5 points ahead of their next nearest competitor, Dickinson.
 
Messiah's strong finish was built upon a number of strong performance across many events.
 
On the Track
 
Emily Senning highlighted a great day on the track with a first place finish in the 800. She finished with a time of 2:20.44, less than three-quarters of a second from her PR. Tasha Becker also took first in the 5000 meter run, doing so in a time of 19:30.53.
 
In the 1500 meter run Holly Eliason was third with a time of 5:11.62, the same finish as Jenny Bove in the 10000 meter run (42:23.80).
 
In the 400 hurdles Julie Heisey took first with a time of 67.17, and Katie Heindel took third (70.86). In the 100 hurdles Kristen Frawley continued her strong year with a third place time of 16.11. Rebecca Querfeld was sixth at 17.15.
 
Messiah's top performers continued in the steeplechase as Natalie Ross took first with a dominating time of 12:35.50. Alissa Rogers was in second place for Messiah with a time of 12:44.17. 
 
In the relays, Messiah was noticeably strong. They took first in the 4x800 behind Natalie Ross, Holly Eliason, Elizabeth Lelonek, and Emily Senning. The group finished with a time of 10:43.46.
 
In the 4x400 Messiah took second with a time of 4:20.17, and they took third in the 4x100 with a time of 51.66.
 
In the Jumps
Marie Johnson was again a standout for Messiah after taking first in the triple jump with a mark of 11.20m (36'9"). Johnson also took second in the high jump with a mark of 1.61m (5.3.25"), with her mark itself tying for the competition lead.
 
In the pole vault Megan Renes was the runner-up with an impressive jump of 2.82m (9'3"). Kaitlyn Hostetler took third in the long jump with a mark of 4.93m (16'2.25").
 
In the Throws
Alyssa Mills led the Falcons' throwers with a fourth place finish in the discus. Her measure was 33.34m (109'4").
 
Heptathlon
Rebecca Querfeld took third place with 3,406 points. She won the shot put with a throw of 10.58m (34'8.5") and was edged by just 0.01 seconds for second place in the 100 hurdles (17.39). Querfeld also took third in the javelin with a mark of 28.09m (92'2").
 
Querfeld fell short of her PR in the heptathlon by 70 points.
