Kyne Leads Falcons in 4-1 Win Over Misericordia

Grantham, PA – Matt Kyne scored twice and Messiah College tallied four times on their home field in a 4-1 win over Misericorida on Saturday night. The victory was the second-straight for the Falcons as they pushed their record to 5-2-1.

The Falcons got on the board early when Matt Kyne put through a header off a corner set in the sixth minute. Bryant Myer played to Jacob Bender on the right side, and his serve went to Kyne on the back post for the redirection. There, he had more than enough time and space to place his header inside the side of the goal. The tally was his first of the season.

Messiah's lead did not last long, however, as the Cougars found an equalizer less than seven minutes later. Niko Amity put through the goal for the visitor, doing so after the Falcons headed a Cougar throw-in away from the 18. The ball came to the foot of Amity who had room from 25 yards out to fire to the far post. Keeper Jonathan Weaver was blocked for a moment when the shot was taken, and his delayed reaction kept him from reaching the left side of the goal for a save.

Despite losing the lead, the Falcons kept their poise and went ahead in the 15th minute. Danny Rowe collected the go-ahead score when he was played direct down the right side from Justin Brautigam. Rowe took possession and escaped his defender for a quick shot over the slide of keeper PJ Steiner.

The Falcons' 2-1 lead was challenged again the 38th minute, but Weaver collected a tremendous diving save on a long strike from Trey Zeigler.

Messiah pushed ahead 3-1 when Jacob Bender and Nick West played give-and-go with each other to get into the right side of the box. Bender slid into the return cross from West for his second goal of the season.

Matt Kyne added his second goal of the match in the 84th minute, again doing so off a corner serve. This one came from the left side and off the foot of Zack Bosshard, and this time Kyne leaped at the six for a header that bounced just over the goal line.

The Falcons outshot the Cougars 21-8, and they also collected eight corners. The two goals for Kyne are twice as many as he had in his career entering the game.

Misericordia fell to 4-3-1 in loss.

Messiah will next play on Wednesday, Sept. 30 when they travel to Elizabethtown College for game at 7:00 p.m.
