Men's and Women's Swimming Both Sweep Double-Dual

Grantham, PA - The Messiah men's and women's swimming teams both swept a double-dual on Thursday night, each claiming victories over King's College and Arcadia University. The men defeated Arcadia 138-122 and King's 188-66 while the women beat Arcadia 200-61 and King's 205-51.
 
In the women's meet, the Falcons dominated. The Messiah women won all but one event, the 1,000 yard freestyle, on the evening. Not only did the Falcons win nearly every event in the meet, they also took nearly every second-place finish as well. Out of 14 events, the Falcons finished one-two in seven different events and the swept the top three spots in four other events.
 
The Falcons swept the podium in the 100 yard back, the 200 yard back, the 100 fly, and the 200 IM.
 
There were a number of standout performances for the women on the evening.
 
Joelle Williamson won both the 100 yard and 200 yard back with times of 1:02.34 in the 100 yard and 2:21.01 in the 200 yard. She also helped her relay team to a victory in the 200 yard medley relay.
 
Tara Freeman competed in four events in the meet. Freeman won two individual races the 50 free (24.88) and the 100 fly (59.48) while finishing in second behind teammate Williamson in the 100 back (1:02.98). Freeman also helped her 200 free relay team to a first-place finish in the last event of the evening.
 
Like Freeman, Kaitlin Wingert competed in four events, three individual and one relay. Wingert came away from the meet, a perfect four for four. She claimed first in the 200 yard free (2:02.25), 100 yard free (57.15), and the 200 yard IM (2:20.91). Wingert also anchored the 200 yard medley relay with a 25.82 final lap to give the team a four-second victory in the event.
 
A total of seven different women won events for the Falcons. While Williamson, Freeman, and Wingert each collected multiple victories, Sarah Woods (100 breast - 1:13.87), Izzy Ramsland (200 fly – 2:23.19), Emily Reale (200 breast – 2:32.36), and Caitlin Magaw (500 free – 5:36.12) each picked up one individual victory a piece.
 
In the men's meet, The Falcons started off with a bang. The messiah men won the opening 200 yard medley relay by almost two seconds with a team of Nolan McArdle, David Patawaran, Phil Rodo, and Jeremy Wakeley (1:41.38).
 
The Falcons next victory didn't come until the 12th event of the meet when Dakota Schmalz won the 200 yard fly by almost four seconds with a time of 1:58.91. This was the first of three individual victories that Schmalz would collect on the evening. Schmaltz would also win the 200 yard back (2:04.97) and the 200 yard IM (2:02.89).
 
In the 200 yard back that Schmalz won, he was followed by teammate Kurtis Platteel (2:06.59). It was the lone event that the Messiah men would claim the top two finishes in a race.
 
Nolan McArdle also claimed a victory in the 50 yard free with a time of 22.74, for the only other men's individual victory on the night.
 
The Falcons did cap off the two victories over the Knights and Monarchs with a victory in the 200 yard free relay. The team of Schmaltz, Joe Cornelius, Wakeley, McArdle took the final relay with a time of 1:31.60.
 
The men's and women's teams will travel to Stevenson on Saturday to take on the Mustangs in a dual beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the McDonough School.
