Falcons Sweep Mustangs With Total Team Effort

Owings Mills, MD – The Messiah Falcons swimming teams traveled south of the Mason-Dixon line to take on the Stevenson Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons were victorious in both the men's and women's meets. The men won by a final score of 110-50 while the women came away with a 135-63 decision.
 
In the women's race a number of Falcons swam in races that are not normally their forte. Despite the Falcons swimming outside of their normal events, the women won eight of the 11 events on the afternoon. The Falcons claimed the top two spots in the 200 free relay at the end of the night. The team of Joelle Williamson, Autumnn Merrill, Holly Hagar, and Lydia Ellsworth finished in first with a time of 1:47.40.
 
In addition to the relay victory, six different individuals took first place honors. Brittany Pond was the lone individual to claim multiple victories, she took first-place honors in the 1,000 free (11:54.95) and 100 free (56.85).
 
Joelle Williamson won the 200 free in a time of 2:08.91 ahead of teammate Lydia Ellsworth (2:10.66). Emily Reale took the 400 IM (4:51.66) while Renee Ormond took the 200 fly in a time of 2:25.33. With a time of 2:16.77, Tara Freeman claimed the 200 back and Caitlin Magaw won the 500 free in 5:35.29.
 
In the men's meet, the Falcons defeated the small Stevenson swim team by a 110-50 final. The Messiah men started the afternoon with a win in the 200 medley relay from the team of Daniel Jessen, David Patawaran, Jeremy Wakeley, and Nolan McArdle in a time of 1:45.72.
 
Daniel Jessen was the lone Falcon on the men's side to win multiple events, claiming first-place in the 50 free (23.17) and the 200 back (2:09.27).
 
Aaron Eckman won the 200 free in a time of 1:53.03, his best time of the season in the event. His previous best was a 1:53.38 mark from the Falcons meet against Lycoming. Today's time is also the best mark for the Falcons this season.
 
Dakota Schmalz took the 400 IM in a time of 4:25.74. Schmaltz finished over 12 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, teammate Nick Wieder (4:37.89). Joe Cornelius brought home the final first-place finish for the Falcons, winning the 100 free in a time of 51.35.
 
The Falcons will swim next Saturday when they travel to Annville to take on the Dutchmen. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
