Grantham, PA – Messiah College men's and women's swimming hosted their final regular-season meet on Saturday, and all things seem to be clicking with MAC Championships just two weeks away. The men defeated both Lebanon Valley and Misericordia by scores of 188-71 and 131-123, respectively, and the women won by even great margins: 199-57 over the Dutchmen and 187-70 over the Cougars.

The Falcons' men were led by a host of great performances and season-best times. Dakota Schmalz, who last year won the MAC Championship in the 400 IM, took first in that event with a time of 4:25.26. The super sophomore also took the top spot in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.24.

Nolan McArdle also earned a first-place finish for Messiah, doing so in the 50 free with a season-best time of 22.63. He also finished third in both the 100 backstroke (55.74) and the 200 IM (2:07.21).

Additional performances of note included:
  • Aaron Eckman (5:06.35) and Nick Wieder (5:06.95) took second and third in the 500 freestyle, respectively. Jordan Frank also finished fifth with a season-best mark of 5:26.10
  • Nick Wieder finished second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.22, more than two seconds better than his time of 2:04.78 earlier this year
  • Jeremy Wakeley finished fourth in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:52.40, exactly one-fifth of a second better than his previous best time this season
  • David Patawaran finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.52
  • Joe Cornelius (51.39) and David Patawaran (52.07) finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the 100 freestyle, with each swimmer ahead of any Lebanon Valley finisher
  • Messiah finished second in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay

Messiah Women's Swimming

Emily Reale's school record swim in the 400 IM highlighted a tremendous day for the Falcons. Reale finished second to Misericordia's Dani Blass in the event, but her time of 4:48.35 was nearly three seconds better than the previous mark of teammate Anna McArdle (4:51.17).

Reale's swim was a major highlight, but her teammates kept pace with a number of first-place finishes. That included wins in both relays; in the 200 medley relay Joelle Williamson, Gaby Brubaker, Cassie Cotton, and Tara Freeman finished with a time of 1:51.63; in the 400 freestyle relay, the final event of the day, Cotton, Freeman, Reale, and Kaitlin Wingert won with a mark of 3:42.90.
