Falcons Finish Sixth at Roger Williams

Bristol, RI - Messiah College wrestling traveled to Rhode Island this weekend to take part in the Roger Williams Invitational. The Falcons scored 116.5 points and finished sixth overall among 12 teams; the host Hawks won with a score of 150.5 points.

Lucas Malmberg led the effort for Messiah with a title win at 125 lbs. The nation's No. 1-ranked wrestler collected a major decisions in both the semifinal and final to claim the win, with his 12-4 major decision in the final coming over Steven Institute's Rob Murray.
 
Jeff Hojnakci came close to a title of his own but lost 8-2 in the final to Christopher Sullivan of Coast Guard. On the afternoon Hojnacki, wrestling at 157 lbs., went fall, fall, major decision, and decision before losing 8-2 in the final.
 
Ben Swarr and Derek Beitz each wrestled at 184 lbs., with Swarr dropping a close 10-8 decision in the semifinal and Beitz getting pinned in the quarterfinal. Swarr was especially strong before the narrow loss as he collected two tech fall and two decisions prior to the semifinal.
 
Messiah will compete again next Saturday when they travel to Alliance, Ohio to take part in the Mount Union Duals.
