Falcons Swim Past Spartans on the Road

York, PA – The Messiah women's swim team defeated York College 147-115 earlier this afternoon on the road. The win moves them to 6-2 overall on the season.
 
The Falcons started the meet off strong taking first place in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:11.13. Joelle Williamson, Sarah Woods, Tara Freeman, and Kaitlin Wingert made up the four-person squad. In the 1000 Free, Emily Reale swam well taking second place with a time of 11:28.53 while Tara Freeman also finished second in the 200 Free with a 1:59.47 time.
 
Joelle Williamson took the top spot in the 100 Backstroke swimming a 1:03.26 and teammate Cassie Cotton was not far behind finishing second with a time of 1:04.30. A fresh face in Messiah's lineup today, Leah Williamson swam very well in the 200 Fly finishing with a time of 2:21.04 and edging York's Kacey Banks (2:21.89) to take first place.
 
Kaitlin Wingert, who has been solid thus far for the Falcons, took home her second first place finish of the day in the 50 Free swimming a 24.93. Not long after she captured her third top-spot finish swimming a 54.54 in the 100 Free. Molly Martin finished first place in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:18.85 an Williamson was not far behind her finishing with a time of 2:19.36 and second place finish.
 
Emily Reale captured first place in the 200 Breaststroke swimming a 2:38.76 and Cotton took home another first place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:00.79. In the final event of the day, the 400 Free Relay, the team of Cotton, Williamson, Brittany Pond, and Tara Freeman finished in first place with a time of 3:46.02.
 
Messiah finished first in 10 out of 14 events, which led to their team score of 147 on the day. They will be taking a winter hiatus but will be back in action in the new year on Jan. 12, 2017 when they travel to Wilkes Barre, Pa for a double-dual with Arcadia University and King's College.
