Falcons Roll Through Blue Jays, 42-3

Grantham, PA - The No. 4 Falcons of Messiah College rolled through the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College 42-3 on Friday night. Messiah won nine of the ten bouts and improved to 16-2 with their 16th straight home dual meet victory.

No. 2 Lucas Malmberg began the match with a quick fall over Phillip Torresani in 2:31. Malmberg wasted little time in his victory as he took Torresani down in the first ten seconds of the match. Malmberg continued to apply the pressure on Torresani and collected the fall.
 
At 133 pounds, Hunter Harris hit a couple of throws and held a commanding first period lead. Harris stayed kept attacking Dan Smith and earned a 19-4 technical fall in the third period.
 
With the Falcons leading 11-0, Arty Walsh grinded out a close 5-3 decision over Mike Lammer. Walsh perfected used two takedowns and an escape for the decision.
 
The Blue Jays got into the win column at 149 pounds as Chad Lammer edged Greg Kabakjian 6-4. Next, Messiah picked up forfeits in the 157 and 165 pound weight classes to extend their lead to 26-3.
 
At 174 pounds, No. 5 Ben Swarr displayed his technical superiority over Quinn Ruble with a major decision. Swarr fired off multiple single leg attacks and earned the bonus point victory.
 
No. 3 Josh Thomson won a tight 5-3 decision over Rocco Hladney at 184 pounds. Hladney caught Thomson off guard early in the first period and tallied a takedown for an early 2-0 lead. Thomson responded with an escape and a takedown of his own and kept his tight lead over Hladney.
 
Another closely contested match happened at 197 pounds with No. 8 Kyle Koser earning a 3-0 decision over Luke Fernandez. Koser used a third period takedown and sealed the victory at 197 pounds.
 
The final bout of the night came at 285 pounds as Jason Wright captured a first period fall. Wright quickly took down Eric Eckstein and tightened up a cork screw for the fall.
 
The Falcons will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when the host the No. 10 Lions from The College of New Jersey at 12:00 p.m.
