Men's and Women's Track and Field Both Take First at DuCharme Invitational

Carlisle, PA – The men's and women's track and field teams traveled to nearby Dickinson College on Saturday to compete in the annual DuCharme Invitational. Both teams took first in team scoring, with the women tallying 172 points and the men 187.
 
Rebecca Querfeld and Alyssa McMinn took first and second place in the women's shot put, respectively. Querfeld threw for a career best of 36'8.25", while McMinn followed closely with a college best 35'9.25" throw.
 
Kristen Frawley and Abby McMinn took first and second in the women's 55-meter hurdles, finishing only 0.10 seconds apart. Frawley finished at 8.78 seconds, with McMinn coming in at 8.88 seconds.
 
Additional noteworthy performances for the women included:
  • Freshman Kayla Miller set a career best in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:04.71, good for second place.
  • Emily Senning took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.14
  • Christy White, with a time of 28.06 seconds, placed third in the 200-meter dash.
 
Phil Headland took the highlight of the day by breaking the 1,000-meter run school record with a time of 2:35.21. That time beat the previous record of 2:35.48, set by Patrick Roach back in 2009.
 
Aaron Gray, who had a great day all around, beat his personal bests in the pole vault (13'5.25") and 55-meter hurdles (8.67 seconds). That pole vault height was a foot better than his career best, and his 55-meter hurdle time was good for third place overall. He also jumped a season best in the long jump with a distance of 17'8.75".
 
Additional noteworthy performances for the men included:
  • Tim Moses took first in the men's pole vault with a height of 16'2.75".
  • In his first time running the race, Mark Engle placed 2nd in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.77 seconds.
  • Cameron Shirk took second overall in the 1-mile run, finishing at 4:28.79.
  • Messiah's men dominated the 400-meter dash, taking the top six spots in the event. Braden Miller, Scott Kerstetter, and Donnell McNair placed top three, respectively.
 
To continue the indoor season, the Falcons will travel to Susquehanna University next weekend to compete in the SU Invitational.
