Tim Moses cleared 16'6.75" and finished in fourth place in the pole vault on Friday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. The honor marked a fifth-straight pole vault All-American award in as many tries across the Indoor and Outdoor seasons.
Â
The seeding of the top five student-athletes actually played out in real time as Luke Winder of North Central defended his Indoor Championship from last season. He cleared 18'1.25" to win by nearly a foot over Andrew Bartnett of Johns Hopkins (17'2.75"). Tyler Orewiler of Mount Union was third with a mark of 16'8.75" and Matthew Dwyer of Wisconsin-Platteville was in fifth place behind Moses with a vault of 16'4.75."
Â
Moses did not fault on a single jump until his first attempt at 16'7.25." After missing once, he then cleared the bar to move to 16'8.5." There, he missed on three-straight attempt for his final placement.
Â
Though Moses' clearance of his final height sealed the placement, the competition with Dwyer was most interesting considering Dwyer chose to pass on 16'6.75" and go to the next height. The strategy did not work out as he missed three times and had to settle for his mark of 16'4.75."
Â
As mentioned, the achievement by Moses marks five All-American honors in the pole vault for his career. The fourth place finish is his third-best placement overall, but it's his second-best placement in the Indoor season, with his National Runner-Up finish last season marking his highest-ever finish.
At the NCAA Championships across Indoor and Outdoor seasons, Moses has now placed second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.
Â
Earlier this season Moses secured his third-straight MAC Championship in the Indoor Pole Vault with a season-best mark of 16'10."
