Grantham, PA - The Messiah College men's and women's track & field teams hosted the remainder of the 2016 Messiah Invitational at Starry Field this afternoon. Saturday's inclement weather forced competition to today, but the Falcons were not phased as they had solid performances across the board.
Christian Pavlovich dropped a bomb in the men's javelin late in the day to finish up what was a great day for the Falcons. The 196' throw gave him a new personal record, first place in the event, and also a top-ten ranking in all of NCAA Division III.
Matthew Miller finished in second in the javelin with a throw of 170'10". Staying with the throws,
Michael Boyles collected a pair of top-five finishes, placing second in the hammer (139' 2") and fourth in the shot put (39' 4.5").
Phil Headland collected two first place finishes of his own, coming in the 800 and 1,500 meter runs. His 4:01.63 time in the 1,500 meter run is a new career best.
Other notable performances from the men include:
- Nathaniel Pardoe finished the 800 meter run just a second behind Headland, finishing in 1:58.08.
- Tim Moses won the pole vault with a height of 16' 8.75".
- Mark Engle placed third in the 100 meter run (11.32) and second in the 200 meter run. His 200 meter time of 22.77 is a new college best.
Alecia Rohrer highlighted the womens' day, collecting three second place finishes (shot put, javelin, and discus). Her 118' 3" throw in javelin was also a new personal best. Teammate
Alyssa McMinn won the discus, setting a new career best with her throw of 120' 2".
Emily Senning lead the way on the trakc, placing second in the 800 meter run (2:26.93) and first in the 1,500 (4:53.79 - a personal best).
Kayla Miller beat out Senning by a second (2:25.90) to win the 800 meter run.
In the jumps,
Abby McMinn placed first in the long jump (16' 7.75") and second in the triple jump (32' 6.5"). That distance in long jump gave her a new personal best.
Elizabeth Cole won the high jump with a jump of 4'11.75", just missing her career best.
Other notable performaces for the women include:
- Natalie Booz won the 200 meter dash (28.29) and took second in the 100 meter dash (13.54)
- Marie Johnson took first in the triple jump with a distace of 34' 7.5".
- With a height of 10' 6", Rachel Robison won the women's pole vault.
The Falcons will be back in action when they travel to Bethlehem, PA this coming weekend to compete in the Greyhound Invitational.
