ResultsChester, PA - Messiah's men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Widener University over the weekend to compete in the 2016 Danny Curran Invitational.
Saturday's ResultsTim Moses and
Dane Cornelius placed first and third, respectively in the men's pole vault. Moses' finished with a height of 16'6.65" while Cornelius topped out at 14'3.25". The javelin also saw two Falcons place, with
Christian Pavlovich taking third (185'2") and
Matthew Miller placing fourth (180'3.75").
Michael Boyles was the other high finish in the throws with his third place finish in the hammer; his 143'8" throw bested his previous best by almost ten feet.
On the track,
Phil Headland clocked a huge personal best in the 1,500 meter run, finishing in 4:03.57.
Donnell McNair took third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.07 seconds. Also, Messiah's 4x400 squad finished in first place with a time of 3:23.83.
Other notable performances for the men include:
- Aaron Powell placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 5'8.75".
- Max Whitehead set a career best in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.28 seconds; that time was good for seventh place.
Kaitlyn Hostetler led the women on day two with a 16'5" distance in the long jump, earning the women's second first-place finish on the weekend.
Rachel Robison, who cleared a height of 10'8.5", claimed the Falcon's last first-place finish, this one coming in the pole vault. In the field,
Alecia Rohrer placed second for the second time this weekend, this time coming in the javelin (115'1.5").
Alyssa McMinn (35'9.75") and
Becca Simon (32'4") placed fourth and seventh, respectively in the shot put to round out the throws.
Abby McMinn started her outdoor season strong, finishing in second place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.78.
Kristen Frawley finished in fourth place with a time of 16.28 seconds. In the distance events,
Emily Senning placed third in the 800 meter run, setting a new personal best on the day with a time of 2:15.54. And in her first time running the event,
Kate Shults finished in third in the 3,000 meter steeple chase, finishing with a time of 12:05.20.
Other notable performances for the women include:
- Hadlee Coker and Elizabeth Cole both cleared 4'8.25" in the high jump, placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
- Skylar Cohick threw a new career best in the javelin with a distance of 93'10.75". She placed fourth overall with that throw.
- Natalie Ross finished eighth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:03.13.
The Falcons will next compete at home in Grantham next weekend, as they host the 38th annual Messiah Invitational. Competition will start on Thursday afternoon with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.
Friday's ResultsFriday saw only a limited number of events, but the Falcons that competed performed well. In the 5,000 meter run, Junior
Alissa Rogers finished in first place and crushed her previous personal best, finishing with a time of 18:47.71. Teammate
Holly Eliason, who finished sixth overall and first in her heat, also ran a personal best with a time of 19:16.29. In her first collegiate meet, freshman
Alecia Rohrer finished second in the women's discus with a throw of 118' 10.68". Fellow freshman
Alyssa McMinn also placed in the discus, with her 110' 10.84" throw putting her in sixth place.
On the men's side,
Jared Schatz started his senior outdoor season off well, finishing in seventh place in the 5,000 meter run with a time 15:17.24.
Cameron Shirk finished not too far behind in tenth with a time of 15:32.38, a career best for him.
The Falcons will resume compeititon Saturday morning at 9:00 AM starting with the women's hammer throw.
