Results
Reading, PA – Messiah College men's track and field finished the three-day MAC Championship meet on Saturday evening. The Falcons finished as the 2016 runner-up, with a total of 129.5 points at the end of the weekend.
Tim Moses led Messiah on Saturday with the only gold medal of the day with his first place finish in the pole vault. His height of 16' 9.25" was a new MAC Outdoor Championship meet record. Brandon Stearn cleared a season best height of 13' 9.25" in the same event to take fourth place and earn Second Team All-MAC honors.
Christian Pavlovich set a new school record in the men's javelin with his throw of 198' 9". Jared High previously held the record with his 197' 11" throw from back in 2011. Following closely, with a program mark of his own, was
Matthew Miller with his 196' 5" heave to take third place. That mark was a new personal best for Miller and also the third best throw all-time.
Jared Schatz and
Christopher Scheib finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the 1,500 meter run. Both set personal bests with their times of 3:57.78 and 3:58.45. Also finishing in fourth place was
Josiah Haws in the 100 meter dash (11.25 seconds).
Nathaniel Pardoe (1:55.42) and
Phil Headland (1:56.12) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800 meter run, and both of Messiah's relays (4x100, 43.06 seconds; 4x400, 3:22.71 – a season best) also finished fourth to earn Second Team All-MAC honors.
The Falcons will await the coming NCAA Championship seedings, which will come in the coming weeks. Listed below are the men most likely to make the cut:
Friday's Results
The highlight of the afternoon came from
Jared Schatz (9:37.39) and
Benjamin Schott's (9:47.37) first and second place finishes, in the 3,000 meter steeple chase. Though neither ran personal bests, their performances were good for First Team All-MAC honors.
The men's decathlon was completed day, and Messiah took second and third.
Aaron Gray placed second with his 5,212 points, and Kline came in a close third with 5,118 points. Kline set personal bests in the 110 meter hurdles (18.23) pole vault (10' 11.75").
The 4x100 meter relay squad ran a 43.03 in preliminaries to earn the fourth seed in the final round. The relay consisted of
Mark Engle,
Josiah Haws,
Braden Miller, and
Curtis Mather. Engle, Haws, and Miller all qualified for finals in their own events as well:
- Mark Engle: 100 meter dash – 11.13 seconds (a personal record), seeded eighth in finals, 200 meter dash – 22.53 seconds, tied for sixth seed in finals
- Josiah Haws: 100 meter dash, 11.04 seconds (a personal record), seeded fourth in finals
- Braden Miller: 400 meter dash, 51.63 seconds, seeded eighth in finals
Also heading to the finals are
Phil Headland and
Nathaniel Pardoe, in the 800 meter dash, and
Max Whitehead in the 400 meter hurdles. Headland ran a season best time of 1:57.26 for the number one seed while Pardo ran a 1:57.76 to take the second seed in tomorrow's final. Whitehead is seeded eighth in the finals with his time of 59.06 seconds.
Three men earned All-MAC honors this afternoon, including two second team honors and one honorable mention.
Michael Boyles threw a career best 145' 4" throw in the hammer to take sixth place and earn Second Team All-MAC honors, while
Donnell McNair recorded a 21' jump in the long jump to take fifth place, also good for Second Team honors.
Aaron Powell was the other Falcon to earn All-MAC honors, with his eighth place finish in the high jump. His 5' 10" jump tied his season best height.

Thursday's Results
Matthew Kline and
Aaron Gray completed the first five events in the men's decathlon on Thursday afternoon. After five events, Kline sits in third place with 2,943 points and Gray sits in sixth with 2,745 points. Both set a career bests in the 100 meter dash early on, with Kline finishing in 11.73 seconds and Gray in 11.76 seconds. Gray went on to set three more personal records, coming in the long jump (17' 9.25") shot put (33' 5.25"), and the 400 meter run (55.27 seconds). Kline set a season best in the shot (32' 11") and tied his season best in the high jump (5' 5.75"). The decathlon will finish on Friday with the 100 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1,500 meter run yet to be contested.
The men's 4x800 meter relay squad of
Phil Headland,
Christopher Scheib,
Nathaniel Pardoe, and
Cameron Shirk brought home the mens' first medal of the weekend. Their 7:46.05 finish in the relay earned them the silver medal, and a First Team All-MAC honor.
Alex Faus was the other Falcon to compete for men. He ran a personal best in the 10,000 meter run with his time of 33:32.42 and placed sixth overall, giving him Second Team All-MAC honors.
